As I look back at the Teachers in very early days of life..

Teachers please be wary
If you think that students are tiny
As innocent and they won't remember
How wrong you are
So vivid are the memory of the teacher
Even decades and decades later

It was long time back, in life so early
But I still remember clearly
Canes and sticks he never carry
A teacher who brought happiness
That we look forward with fondness
Towards his period in primary class

It was long time back, in life so early
But I still remember clearly
Who was a epitome of terror
Rote learning due to horror
Mouth reddened by ‘pan’, he chewed
While scolding, the saliva spewed

It was long time back, in life so early
But I still remember clearly
A teacher so zealous
But not so famous
Who practiced what is preached
His qualities in my memory remains etched

It was long time back, in life so early
But I still remember clearly
Who completed the formality
By coming to the class casually
Just because it was his occupation
Without much zeal for interaction

In trying to not remember
We are reminded further
All of us having passed through same
It is all in the name of the game
But those of you, still in the profession
Must try to pay attention

To make a positive impact on the child
Along with an inerasable memory
Lasting for a life time with glory
Whether to make it lovely or disgusting
It is at the early stage of educating
As if from fresh clay, it is built

Never to forget the maker himself
Like a stone carving
In the memory, forever lasting
Along with the conduct and manner
Unique to each individual teacher
They remain in thoughts (of a child long long ago)

As we grow up with their memory
Their intentions becomes vivid
The distinction between evil and kind
Can be deciphered by the adult mind
Strict teachers are not necessarily disliked
Lenient teachers are not necessarily liked

But remembered they are
Irrespective of being good or bad
A teacher remains a Guru
By tradition, Revered and respected
But never take child’s intelligence for granted
Be wary, and make memory that can be cherished.
